CSR Charter - Varjak Conseil

Introduction

Varjak, a web site and application design and development company based in France and Tunisia, is committed to responsible, sustainable business. Aware of its environmental and societal impact, Varjak places Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the heart of its strategy and values.

This charter defines Varjak's commitments in terms of sustainable development and the actions implemented to achieve them, aimed at all its employees, customers, partners and stakeholders, as well as social measures designed to promote the professional and personal fulfillment of our employees.

Pillars of CSR Policy

Varjak's CSR policy is based on four fundamental pillars:

  • Environment: Minimize the environmental impact of our activities, particularly in terms of energy consumption, transportation and digital pollution.
  • Social: Promoting equal opportunities, diversity, well-being and skills development for employees in France and Tunisia.
  • Governance: Adopt ethical, transparent and responsible corporate governance, involving stakeholders in decision-making.
  • Skills sponsorship: making Varjak's skills available to projects of general interest.

Environment

Varjak's energy consumption is mainly linked to its website and application hosting activities, and to its administrative activities. Its service activity has a limited environmental impact. 

Data and applications are hosted in France by OVH, Google or AWS.

Amazon Web Services (AWS):

  • AWS is committed to ensuring that its operations are powered by 100% renewable energy by 2025, and is aiming for carbon neutrality by 2040. The company is investing in large-scale renewable energy projects and optimizing the energy efficiency of its data centers.

OVHcloud :

  • OVHcloud implements an industrial model focused on sustainability. It uses watercooling to optimize energy consumption, and favors repair and recycling of server components.

Google Cloud:

  • Google is committed to running on decarbonized energy 24/7 by 2030. The company has already achieved carbon neutrality for its operations and is making massive investments in renewable energies.

Varjak also undertakes to :

  • Reducing our carbon footprint: In France, by encouraging telecommuting, sustainable modes of transport and carbon offsetting of air travel. In Tunisia, by raising awareness of environmental issues and promoting good energy consumption practices.
  • Go paperless.
  • Optimize customers' websites and applications to minimize their environmental impact.
  • Choose green web hosting using renewable energy whenever possible.
  • Waste management: Implement selective sorting and recycling in France, raise awareness of waste reduction and recovery, and ensure responsible management of electronic waste (WEEE) in accordance with local regulations.
  • Strive for efficiency: Continuously improve products and services to minimize environmental and social impact, aim for eco-responsible solutions and recommend best practices to customers.

Social measures

Varjak is committed to :

We have put in place a range of social measures designed to foster the professional and personal development of each and every employee. These include cross-disciplinary in-house training, enabling our employees to acquire new skills and develop their versatility. 
  • Offer forms of employment adapted to employees' expectations, promote open-ended contracts, offer work-study positions and offer positions to seniors.

Sponsoring skills

Convinced of the importance of social commitment, we have also initiated skills sponsorship initiatives with our customers in previous years, putting our know-how at the service of projects with a positive impact.

Varjak is committed to :

  • Make available around 5% of its annual sales in the form of skills sponsorship, offering its expertise in web and application development to associations and projects of general interest.
  • Encourage employees to take part in philanthropic projects, by giving them time and resources.
  • Measure the social impact of its philanthropic actions and communicate on its achievements via its website or Linkedin page.

Governance and Business Ethics

Varjak is committed to :

  • Comply with the laws and regulations in force in all the countries in which it operates, by behaving with integrity and transparency.
  • Integrate the expectations of stakeholders (customers, suppliers, employees, local communities) into its decisions, by setting up transparent and effective communication channels, and promoting dialogue and collaboration.
  • Respect and promote human rights in all its operations.
  • Fight corruption by adopting a zero-tolerance policy.
  • Responsible purchasing by selecting suppliers on the basis of ethical and environmental criteria.

Communication

This CSR policy is communicated to all Varjak employees, customers, partners and stakeholders, and is available on the company's website.

This CSR policy is a living document that will be regularly updated to take account of changes in the company, its environment and the challenges of sustainable development.
